Clash Of The Titans Sees Sexton’s Seven Seize Control For Leinster
CATEGORIES: News | POSTED BY: Bob McKenzie | November 5, 2011 at 7:58 amIreland’s two World Cup outhalves dominated proceedings in front of 48,000 hardy souls at landsdowne Road as Jonny Sexton’s boot just edged out Ronan O’Gra’s efforts to guide Leinster to a tight 24-19 victory over defending champions Munster in the clash of the titans in the Rabo Pro Direct Pro12.
Irish skipper Brian O’Driscoll missed the match which turned into a penalty fest as Ireland’s top two point scorers traded blows with Sexton managing an unblemished magnificent 7 to guide the European Champions home as O’Gara popped over four penalties with a late penalty try getting them closer to Leinster but a losing bonus point was Munster’s sole reward after being beaten comfortably by Joel Schmidt’s side who also had Rob Kearney pop over a drop goal to seal a more comfortanble victory than the scoreline would suggest. On the minus side for Munster they lost Keith earls early on with a leg problem and also had Dennis Leamy sent to the bin and had to struggle for a crucial period a man down against their fiercest rivals, but on the plus side they dominated the scrum with Paul O’connel as usual leading by example but it’s first blood to Leinster.
