Green Dreams Of Glory Will It Be Triumph Or Disaster?
CATEGORIES: News | POSTED BY: Bob McKenzie | October 7, 2011 at 11:38 amArse numbingly, coma inducingly boring to watch under Trapattoni this team may be- but they are just 180 minutes away from a first tournament outing in a decade as they face the double A threat of Andorra & Armenia.
The Italian has introduced a defensive steel which has seen Ireland not concede a goal in their last seven matches with the latest of those an incredible backs to the wall scoreless draw with Russia in Moscow. There’s a good chance that the old master may sign for another two years as Irish coach – but is that a good thing?
Ireland are getting the results and are competetive to a point, they over acheived to lose a controversial playoff to France in the last World Cup campaign, and this time round they are looking set for at least a playoff berth for 2012 with group supremacy still possible if other results go their way. The big problem is that it ain’t very good to watch and the Irish are a sports mad nation with a host of sports having a real foothold. This weekend is a massive one for this small island nation with the footballers on the verge of something special and the rugby team set to go further than ever before in a World Cup so we are all at fever pitch anticipating great things. Will our hopes be dissipated, disappointment replacing hope? The next few days could be groundbreaking for Irish sport and win or lose “The Fields Of Athenry” will ring out across the globe cheering our football & rugby players as they chase a greatness in green which we have never seen before. By eight o’clock on Saturday morning we will know triumph or despair but win or lose the Irish fans will conduct themselves with dignity and pride as they dream their dreams- Come On You Boys In Green.
