After all the hype there was only one side in it as the Champions League final was settled at Wembley as a vibrant Barcelona destroyed Manchester United’s dreams of repeating their 1968 triumph at the old venue. United were simply bitch slapped by Barca as Iniesta, Xavi and Messi toyed with the meanest defence in Europe and then ripped it apart with the ease of immortals.

Barcelona produced a master-class of attacking football to deservedly win the Champions League final at Wembley.

Manchester United started well but Barca soon assumed control and took the lead when Pedro slotted in a low shot. The Spaniards were pegged back when Wayne Rooney curled in a superb goal after a one-two with Ryan Giggs.

But Lionel Messi drove in a low effort for his first goal on English soil and dazzling play from the Argentine set up David Villa to curl in Barca’s third. Eric Abidal got to hoist the trophy just 71 days after having treatment for testicular cancer. A fairytale end to a fairytale final.
