Kevin Doyle has given Wolves and the Republic of Ireland a much needed boost, by announcing that he expects to be fit enough to return to action as soon as this Saturday.

Doyle hopes he will be fit for the game with Sunderland

This will be welcome news for Wolves boss Mick McCarthy who only has 2 games left in the season to try and keep his side in the Premier League, they face a tough test on Saturday though as they travel to the Stadium of Light to play Sunderland.

Corkman Doyle, has been out of action for six weeks with a medial knee ligament injury he picked up in the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2012 win over Macedonia in the Aviva Stadium. But in an interview he gave to the clubs website he hopes he can help in Wolves fight for survival.

“I’m on track. I haven’t trained with the lads yet but I have been working outside with the physios running and doing a bit of shooting and was on the pitch at Molineux before yesterday’s game,” he said. “I’m hoping to join in again with the lads over the next few days.”

“Hopefully I won’t have any reaction this week and if it goes all right I should be available,” he said. “I feel I’m naturally fit enough and would be ready if needed but the pressure won’t be on this week after such a fantastic performance from the lads yesterday.

“If I can get through a few days’ training then hopefully I’ve got a chance of being on the bench.”

Doyle picked up his injury while on international duty

What’s good for Wolves will also be good for the Republic of Ireland, who have some internationals right around the corner. The boys in green face a return trip to Macedonia in a must win qualifier for Euro 2012, that’s after Traps army play their part in the remainder of the Carling Nations Cup with games against Northern Ireland and Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in less than two weeks time.

It is widely expected if Doyle is fit enough to return this week that Trap will keep him fit for the Euro games, rather than risk playing him in games that don’t really matter. With that said, Trap should include him in the Carling Nations Cup squads so he can work even more on his fitness.
