Fenlon To Celtic A Done Deal
CATEGORIES: League of Ireland, News, Soccer | POSTED BY: Daniel Pitcher | March 26, 2011 at 7:59 pmSportspeak.eu has learned that the deal between Celtic and Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon has been done. Last night Sportspeak broke the news that a move away from Dalymount Park was looking “likely”, but now it appears the deal has been done.
Its understood the reason for Fenlon’s resignation from the club after three years incharge is the because of constant budget cuts within the club. The recent financial trouble in Bohemians in the off season would not have gone down very well with Fenlon either with two of his players seeking winding up orders against the club in the high court, which seemed to be solved by the FAI.
Fenlon last night once again saw his side lose to Galway United in what was probably the most boring game seen in Dalymount Park.
Its not yet known what Pats role will be at Parkhead, there are some reports saying hes in for a scouting role while others say he will form part of Neil Lennons coaching staff. In his time managing Bohs, Pat has taken in 2 Airtricity League titles, an FAI Ford Cup, an EA Sports cup and a Setanta Sports Cup, a clean sweep of domestic honours for Bohs.
This isnt the first time the former Shelbourne manager has been linked with a move to Scotland. In the off season of 2008 Fenlon was targeted by Dundee United before the start of the following season, but the move was rejected by Bohemians because the club was not going to meet the clubs compensation demands of up to half a million euro.
Alot of names have been thrown out to who would replace Fenlon at Dalymount Park but Sportspeak predicts it will be the former Shamrock Rovers and recently Sporting Fingal manager Liam Buckley. Buckley has been out of work since Fingal went out of business during the season break and would manage at where Fingal had been due to play their home games this season.
There are also reports that current Bohs captain Owen Heary will take some sort of place in the management structure while staying as a player.
