Dalymount 2 In Dire Straits

Bohemians have recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons and once again the financial axe falls on the club.

There is a question mark over any teams playing in Dalymount this season

Only two weeks after they were spared from costly high court appearances over unpaid players, Bohs once again face winding up as a result of the financial difficulties that Sporting Fingal are now going through, aswel as their own problems.

Fingal recently reached an agreement with the higher up in Bohemians to use Dalymount Park for the coming season, after the Morton Stadium in Santry failed to meet new FAI standards.

But a statement from the club and the PFAI yesterday cast a major question mark over the future of both clubs. The statement came after Sporting Fingal pulled out of the Setanta Sports Cup. The statement read

The PFAI can confirm that Sporting Fingal Football Club have cancelled the contracts of its entire playing staff. The players are now seeking employment elsewhere.

The PFAI is massively disappointed that once again contracts, some which have been signed very recently, are not being honoured.

When the agreement was reached about the use of Dalymount Park, Bohemians would have put that in mind when they were drawing up their budget, with the expectation of cash coming in from Fingal through rent and gate receipts.

But now since Fingal have let go all of their players, it is likely the club will not seek a license from the Football Association of Ireland.

It is widely predicted that Bohs will either not apply for a new license for the Premier Division or not be granted it as there is currently only 4 senior players left in the squad and the speculation that manager Pat Fenlon has applied for the managers role in Newry. They will also be faced with the option of dropping down to the first division so they can sort their problems out.

With only weeks to go until the start of the new season, once again the future of 2 clubs has been cast into doubt. The saga continues
