The USA have a lead over Europe after day one of a rain-interrupted Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. They’re up by 2-and-a-half to 1-and-a-half, but that’s only in the projected scoring, because the opening session fourballs haven’t yet been completed.

At the end of play today Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are 1Up against Phill Mickelson and Dustin Johnson (after 12).

The Northern Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Greame McDowell are 2Down against Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar (after 11).

Ian Poulter and Fisher are All Square with Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods (after 10)

Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington are 1Down against Jeff Overton and Buba Watson (after 8)

Ryder Cup organisers have confirmed a new schedule to make up for the long delay in play today. Tomorrow afternoon’s foursomes have been scrapped. Instead, there’ll be an extended third session which will comprise two foursomes and four fourball encounters. This will mean all 12 golfers on each team will be in action tomorrow Sunday’s singles remain as scheduled, but will continue into Monday if necessary.
