Dunner Fit For Argie Bargie

Richard Dunne has been passed fit enough to play in tomorrow nights big friendly international match with Argentina at The Aviva stadium. There had been doubts over whether the Aston Villa man would feature at all as he had been carrying a knock to his knee, but team doctor Alan Byrne has been working with him since Dunne’s arrival to Dublin and put him through an intensive fitness test which Dunne has passed. This means that Darren O’Dea who was named today as a fill in replacement if Dunne wasn’t to be fit will be left out of the team or included on the bench.

The other injury doubt Kevin Doyle will have to wait until tomorrow to find out whether he will feature. The Wolves man has been having worse problems than Dunne with a calf injury which was also given alot of attention by a very busy team doctor who had to bring manager Giovanni Trapattoni to the Matter Hospital at 3 this morning as Trap had been feeling unwell and vomiting. Doyle had been showing signs of improvement at training today but as a precaution will be re-assessed in the morning. Cillian Sherridan will be facing an anxious wait as he had been drafted in to replace Doyle if he wasn’t fit.

In other team news Liam Lawerance has returned to England this evening. Lawerance had been named in the team this morning but has returned to his club for treatment on a groin strain he sustained during training today. Former St Patrick’s Athletic star Keith Fahy has been named in the team instead of Lawerance.

The FAI also confirmed this evening that as a further precaution Giovanni Trapattoni will be kept in hospital overnight so doctors can monitor his situation. Trap reckons his illness was possibly as a result of bad shellfish he had eaten before leaving Italy. His consultant at the Matter says his condition remains stable and not serious.

Revised Republic of Ireland team to face Argentina in The Aviva Stadium.

Shay Given, Paul McShane, Richard Dunne, John O’Shea, Kevin Kilbane,Keith Andrews, Paul Green, Keith Fahy, Damien Duff, Keivn Doyle/Cillian Sheridan, Robbie Keane
