Old Lady Glamour Tie Awaits Rovers In Europa League

CATEGORIES: Champions League & Europa League Qualifying | POSTED BY: | July 16, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Bohemians will face Belgian side Anderlecht in the third round of the Champions League qualifying but that all depends on Pat Fenlon’s men getting past Welsh side The New Saints. Bohs defeated TNS 1-0 in the first leg on Tuesday in Dalymount Park.

Meanwhile Celtic have been drawn against Portugese outfit  Braga with the first leg set to take place in Portugal. The SPL  club will play away in the first leg of the tie on July 27 or 28 with the return match at Parkhead on August 3 or 4.

This will be Braga’s  first ever time to have an opportunity of getting into the Champions League.

Celtic reached the play-off round last season only to lose to Arsenal.  Defeat in the tie would leave Neil Lennon’s side in the play-off round of the Europa League along with clubs such as Dundee United, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

The first leg will be Celtic’s first competitive match of the new season, with their Scottish Premier League campaign not beginning until their trip to Inverness on 8 August.

Elsewhere following on from last nights Europa League qualifing,  Sporting Fingal, Shamrork Rovers and Dundalk were all in the hat for the 3rd qualifying round draw.

Shamrock Rovers will face Juventus in the 3rd qualifying round if they can overcome Bnei Yehuda, that tie is tied at 1-all with the second leg to come in Israel next week.If Rovers were to progress they would play the Italian giants at home first.

Sporting Fingal have been drawn to face either Finnish outfit FC Honka who finished second in the Veikkausliiga last year or Bangor City from Wales who finished 5th last season in The Welsh Premier League but they are Welsh Cup champions.

Dundalk are likely to exit the competition after a 6-0 loss to Levski Sofia but in the event they complete a remarkable comeback in Oriel Park, Kalmar or Dacia await in round three.
