CATEGORIES: FIFA World Cup, News, Podcast, Soccer, World Cup 2010 | POSTED BY: Daniel Pitcher | June 28, 2010 at 3:03 pmThe world’s leading players and managers are almost all in favour. But the games ruling body offers it the cold shoulder.
A Fifa spokesperson deemed today a news conference is not the place to debate the introduction of goal line technology.
Frank Lampard’s wrongly disallowed goal has once again thrown the spotlight on the issue.
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says its introduction is long overdue
But don’t mention the “T” word, that’s technology at FIFA HQ, President Sepp Blatter must have a thick skin to ignore the clamour. Even he must have been red faced at the Free State stadium over the injustice that Lampard’s goal didn’t stand.
According to Blatter speaking after the controversy around Ireland’s injustice in Paris, Technology in the game removes the human touch in refereeing.
Football fans enjoy debating controversial decisions made by referees at matches, but they also want to know that big decisions made at matches are correct.
Unless football takes on the ideas of rugby tennis and cricket, then more controversies like yesterdays will continue to happen at the biggest football show on earth.
Sportspeak’s chief soccer reporter Daniel “Pitchside” Pitcher has this report.
