Sporting Fingal 1 – 1 Shamrock Rovers

Byrne (78)               Chambers (88)

James Chambers pinched a point for Shamrock Rovers with a penalty three minutes from the end of the Dublin derby at Sporting Fingal.

Fingal had the better of the chances but didn’t score until 78 minutes when Conan Byrne cut in from the right past Danny Murphy and Craig Sives to tuck home his first goal of the season.

It was not an easy afternoon for either team with the wind causing mahem throughout. Sporting Fingal would have come out the worst considering they like to play long high balls but in the conditions this afternoon this was not possible.

The Hoops went all out for an equaliser and found it from the penalty spot after Chambers’ free-kick on the edge of the box struck Gary O’Neill’s arm, allowing the midfielder to beat Brendan Clarke with the spot-kick in off the post.

Sporting Fingal Clarke; O’Brien, Maher, Browne, Frost (Quinn 9); Finn, Williams McFaul; C. Byrne, O’Neill, Zayed.

Shamrock Rovers Mannus; Sives, Murray, Price, Murphy (Barrett 80); O’Connor (Dennehy 70), Turner, Chambers, Bayly (Rice 70), Cahill; Turner

Referee: A. Buttimer (Cork)
