Bohemians 0-0 Sligo Rovers

Bohemians came into tonight’s clash with Sligo Rovers hoping to defend there 100% record so far this season. That hope nearly crumbled from under them when only 30 seconds into the game Sligo’s Padraig Amond miss hit a shot sending keeper Chris O’Connor to the ground, the ball came back to Amond but it clearly hit him in the hand on the way up, the ball went in the net but referee Richie Winter had seen it and disallowed the goal. It was all guns blazing for Paul Cooks outfit and they put even more pressure on the gypsies forcing inside the box once more, Iarfhlaith Davoren was brought down by Ken Oman and Sligo were awarded with a free but the cross was far too easy for Chris O’Connor, Sligo looked to have no nerve problems in front on the packed Jodi stand.

Bohs first opportunity came on 13 minutes Gavin Peers was booked for a reckless challenge on Ken Oman. The free almost went in the back of the net but was brushed away by the Sligo keeper.

If the man of the match was to be decided on the 30th minute of a game it would have to go to Paddy Madden. The youngster was on fire in the opening half firing shots at the Sligo goal from way back but his chances that were all well on target were inches wide or swept away by Brush in the goal. Towards the end of the first half Jason Byrne found his feet and on a few occasions found himself goalbound but it wasn’t his half as all of his chances were well defended by Sligo.

The second half started like the first one started, Sligo getting in a chance on goal but Chris O’Connor looked sharper and saved it no problem. It was all boring foot ball from there but there was a twist to this game on the hour mark. Sligo were reduced to 10 men when Gavin Peers brought down the goalbound Jason Byrne on the line of the box and for a second it looked as if Alan Kelly had for got that he had already booked Peers in the first half the assistant on the right hand side made sure he knew of the first half booking and then the red card was produced, the next question was whether or not it was a penalty offence but the assistant pointed out that a free should be given outside the box. Jason Byrne took it but was saved in between the legs of Richard Brush in goal. From then on the frustration kicked in for the league champions, they were well able to create the chances but nothing came from them. Not even an introduction from Cretaro who has proved vital for Bohs in recent weeks could do anything and Sligo’s defence was rarely breached.

4 minutes of added time was just not enough for bohs on a very frustrating night that ended Bohemians 100% record in the league but one positive Pat Fenlon will take from this game is that his side are yet to be beaten. Final score 0-0
