Illegal Betting Probe “Postponed” By FAI

Sportspeak has learned that yet again the the FAI has dodged it’s responsibilities to the fading League Of Ireland after postponing a disciplinary hearing relating to illegal gambling on League of Ireland games. Two unnamed individuals connected with the former Derry City Football Club, one of whom was a player, were due to answer questions relating to FAI Rule 100 on betting and gambling.Worldwide there are stringent rules relating to betting for professional sportsmen & women in all codes, particularly since the explosion of the Asian betting market & the criminalisation of online betting in the US.It is believed that the case arises from a FIFA investigation into another former Candystripes player Sammy Morrow, who was last week served a three month ban for breaking FIFA rules on betting on the domestic game.Morrow currently plies his trade with Coleraine in the Irish Premier League. No new date has been announced for the disciplinary hearing.
