Bohemians 1-0 Bluebell

Tonight Bohemians played their last game before their big league opener next week against Bluebell United at Dalymount Park. The rain and snow had fallen all day but it eventually stopped to make it easier on everyone.

In the opening 20 minutes there was a great display of skill from Liam Reilly’s Bluebell team and they came close to scoring on two occasions. Nial Donnelly fired a great shot only for it to be turned wide by new Bohs keeper Barry Murphy, the other chance came from Darren Meade an easy tap in one would have thought but he chipped it over the cross bar. Bohemians were not without their chances either, last seasons top scorer Jason Byrne going close on a number of ocasions other than that it was mostly center feild play in which neither team could keep posession. Very boring play from both sides brought on half time with no scores.

In the second half Bohs were all guns blazzing with an immidate attack on goal. Killian Breannan was awarded with a free kick after Bluebell’s Glen Keddy was booked for kicking Jason Byrne. Brennan got the ball deep in the box and new signing Steven Gray powered a shot into the back of the net to give bohemians a 1-0 lead, a great responce after a boring first half for the reigning Premier Division champions. That great second half response turned back to more gloomy football as neither side tryed to trouble the respective keepers, play got so terrible that if this was the first game of football you had ever witnessed you would have thought Bohemians were in the same leagues as local clubs like Phoenix FC or Castleknock Celtic and not the biggest team in the country ! Pat Fenlon did not seem pleased at his sides performance despite it being a pre season friendly.

The Game ended on a very dull note not a champions performance at all and now Pat Fenlon will have some hard work ahead of next weeks opener with Sporting Fingal.
