As reported by Sportspeak earlier, Bray Wanderers had slammed the FAI’s Decision to include Cork City in the official League of Ireland fixture list.
Bray’s General Manager Jack O’Neil said ‘We are absolutely dismayed that the League of Ireland has issued a set of fixtures which places Cork City who currently have no licence to play in the League of Ireland for the coming season in the Premier Division while Bray Wanderers who obtained a Premier Division licence have been placed in the First Division.
When contacted by Sportspeak the Football Association of Ireland said; “The fixture list which was issued yesterday came with the following note:”
“Please note that these fixtures may change pending the decision of the Independent Club Licensing Committee and the outcome of a High Court case involving Cork City, which is due for mention on Monday, February 22nd.”
With the season fast approaching, the FAI felt that it would be unfair on clubs and supporters to with-hold the fixture list until next Monday, when the High Court and Independent Club Licensing Committee will reconvene separately to discuss the situation at Cork City.
“As was made clear, the fixture list issued yesterday was a provisional list and is subject to change. All parties are aware of that situation”
Adding to that the FAI said “Bray Wanderers are the next best placed club in terms of sporting merit to receive a Premier Division licence, so any vacancy in the Premier Division would go to Bray Wanderers.
