Bobsleigh Bodge Job At Winter Olympics Sees Irish Entry
CATEGORIES: News | POSTED BY: Bob McKenzie | February 9, 2010 at 12:10 pmSportspeak has learned that the Australia bobsleigh crew are set to be added as a 21st team at the Winter Olympics after the Court of Arbitration ruled in favour of an application by the Australian Olympic Committee.
A statement from the CAS stated: ‘The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the application filed by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) which claimed that the International Bobsleigh & Tobogganing Federation (FIBT) did not apply its qualification system for the Olympic Winter Games 2010 properly.’
It was thought that Ireland’s women’s bobsleigh team could lose their place at the Winter Olympics if Australia were successful, however the CAS recommended that a 21st team should be included in the event instead of eliminating the Irish crew.
