A stoppage-time header from Wayne Rooney sent holders Manchester United into the League Cup final tonight with a 3-1 victory over Manchester City to win a senasational semi-final 4-3 on aggregate which was the same score United beat City by in the Premier League earlier in the season

United trailed 2-1 from the first leg at Eastlands but turned the tie in their favour after the break with goals from Paul Scholes after some fantastic passing from fergies men and Michael Carrick’s sensational shot which was angled to absolute perfection.Former United favourite Carlos Tevez, who scored City two goals in the first leg, levelled it up with a clever flick but with extra time looming Rooney swooped for his 21st goal of the season. It had been 34 years since city had won any sort of silverware which was the league cup which was against Newcastle where City had won 2-1 that day when Dennis Tueart scored the winner. This would also have been City’s first time in a major final since the 1981 FA Cup
