Player Power Cranks Up In Limerick Hurling Dispute

sportspeak has learned that Justin McCarthy’s position as Limerick Hurling manager is at the precipice after the 2009 squad Senior hurlers who have withdrawn their services have issued a lengthy 2500-word statement in which they state that they are unwilling to return to the Limerick panel while the current management is in place.By issuing the statement they aim to address what they believe has been an orchestrated series of allegations made by Justin McCarthy and several other prominent figures in the ongoing dispute.
In the statement signed by 25 players including last years captain Mark Foley they have outlined six issues which they feel need to be addressed. They say the origins of the dispute arose because of McCarthy’s failure to clarify instances where discipline was breached or a lack of commitment was evident, and that as a result each player made a voluntary decision regarding their availability for the 2010 panel under the current management.
The players also say that player representatives were willing to meet management to discuss issues, but only after the players withdrew their services were management willing to hold a meeting, despite the players having met with county board officials on three previous occasions to discuss issues of concern.
