Welsh Wizard Magics Up Award In Annus Mirabilous

Ryan Giggs ended his annus mirabalis as he collected the prestigious BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award in Sheffield. In a year which saw him pick up a record busting 11th Premier League title and the PFA Player Of The Year Award from his fellow professionals and he was also the BBC Wales Sports Personality Of The Year. Giggs is the most garlanded footballer in history and he described his shock at winning the award saying “I grew up watching this show and you can see what a shock this is for me by the speech i obviously didn’t prepare. I have been lucky to play under the greatest manager the world has ever seen and for one of the greatest clubs with some fantastic players” Giggs is 36 and is set to sign another new contract at Manchester United alongside fellow veteran Paul Scholes who’s a sprightly 35.
Other awards saw Severiano Ballesteros receive the Lifetime acheivement Award as he recovers from brain cancer. Tom Daley, the 15 year old World Diving Champion won the Young Personality award, the Irish Rugby team lost out to the England Cricket team for the Team Award. Comedian Eddie Izzard got a special award after running 43 marathons in 51 days as he ran round the UK raising €500,000 for Sport relief.
