High profile stars of the sporting and political world in France have begun to come out in support of a replay of the disputed World Cup play off between France and the Republic of Ireland.

The Barcelona and French International striker at the centre of a sporting and diplomatic row over the hand ball incident in last Saturday’s second leg of the World Cup playoff in Paris, said today that a replay would be the fairest soloution.

Hours earlier, FIFA had dismissed any possibility of a replay, siting that under the laws of the game, the referees decision is final.

Speaking to RTL Radio earlier, French finance minister Christine Lagarde, said “Fifa should… replay the match.”

If FIFA can come out and say that if the French Football Federation wants the game replayed, then they will allow the qualifier to be replayed. This is the only logical way forward without FIFA setting a precedent as 85% of the French football fans are not happy qualifying in an unfair manner in which they did, the FFF will have to replay. If FIFA don't! they should discontinue the FIFA fair play award or take the word FIFA out of the awards name!
