Ireland vs Australia

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

At Croke Park, Ireland forced a 20-20 draw with Australia. Drew Mitchell and Rocky Elsom ran over for the Wallabies, with Matt Giteua putting over two penalties and two conversions.

Tommy Bowe got the first try for the Irish, with Ronan O’Gara kicking two penalties and two conversions, the second following a last minute try from captain Brian O’Driscoll, who made his 100th Test appearance. Luke Fitzgerald was taken off injured with a dodgy knee and the results of his scan wont be known for another 24/48 hours. If Luke’s injury is as bad as feared he looks set to miss out on atleast a month, but Declan Kidney will be glad that he still has plenty of options to choose from with Gordan Darcy and Keith Earls battling for a starting place. A player that really impressed today was Cian Healy who played a remarkable game alongside the man who stood on his face, John Hayes at prop, keeping Ireland’s scrumage quite solid. Next up for Ireland is Fiji at the RDS followed by the visit of world champions and tri nations champions South Africa at Croke Park

Sportspeak got to catch up with Declan Kidney, Cian Healy and Brian O Driscoll after the game.
