Magnificent Seven for O’Brien as Murtagh brings Fame$ Glory home at The Curragh
CATEGORIES: News | POSTED BY: Bob McKenzie | June 28, 2009 at 4:48 pmFame & Glory destroyed a top class field to land Aiden O’Brien a record seventh Irish Derby. Jockey Johnny Murtagh guided the horse home to acheive a derby double after victory on Yeats in the Epsom Derby a fortnight ago when he just edged out Fame & glory to mark the horse’s only defeat. It was Murtagh’s third victory in his home blue riband and he said after a five length stroll past the winning post ” I’ve been sweet on this horse all week. I asked him to accelerate and he did. You won’t ever see an easier winner of an Irish Derby at The Curragh.”
Trainer O’Brien was proud of the little bit of history ” he’s a great horse showed plenty of tactical spread and he travelled very well. johnny gave him a great ride and it’s a very very special achievement for everyone at Coolmore”
