Five time World Champs Brazil needed a fortuitous 90th minute penalty to edge out an Egyptian side who dominated the game for long periods to win 4-3 as the Confederations Cup sparked into life.
The South American champions led 3-1 at halftime after goals from Kaka, Luis Fabiano and Juan. Zidan had equalised Kaka’s fifth minute opener before Brazil created a two goal cushion.
The match turned on it’s head in the 54th minute as Shawkey took advantage of Brazil’s defensive frailty and just 60 seconds later Zidane grabbed his second of the match to astonishingly tie the match up. The final half hour saw the African Nations Cup holders dominate posession as they chased an amazing comeback win. Egypt seemed the more likely to pinch the match but Brazil held on and heartbreak came for Egypt in the last minute. a free kick from Barcelona’s Dani Alves was met on the volley by Kaka the ball was handballed on the line. English referee Howard Webb originally signalled a corner but must have had a shout from the fourth official as he showed the red card and awarded the penalty. Kaka stepped up and cooly slotted home to save Brazil’s blushes.in Blomfontein
