Sportspeak understands that Cristiano Ronaldo has finally asked to leave Old Trafford and Manchester United have agreed a €95 million fee with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The Portugese has been a target for Madrid for the last three summers and now the player will fly to the Spanish capital to begin negotiating personal terms with his image rights the crucial sticking point. The Brazilian Kaka who moved to Real earlier this week gets 50 percent of his image rights.
Ronaldo joined Manchester United six years ago for €15 million and spent his first two years being criticised as a show pony who would fall over at the slightest touch but he matured to become the World Player of the year with an astonishing 2007-08 season when he netted 42 goals.
“United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player,” said a statement from the English and World Club champions the statement said the decision came at Ronaldo’s request after he “again expressed his desire to leave”.
United described the offer for the 24-year-old as unconditional and added that they expected the matter to be concluded by 30 June.
Madrid signed Brazilian Kaka for a reported €66 million earlier in the week, surpassing the previous world record fee of €555.6 million Real paid for Zinedine Zidane in 2001. That deal was sealed by the ambition of returning Real president Florentino Perez, who previously led the Spanish club from 2000 to 2006 – during the famous galacticos era.. Madrid have also been linked with Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso, Valencia’s David Villa and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery since Perez’s unopposed election signalled the return of their vast spending.
The transfer saga has rumbled on for the past three summers with Ronaldo being persuaded to stay after the last World Cup by his manager Alex Ferguson who said that he wouldn’t “sell Madrid a virus” The deal has to be done by the end of the month as it’s rumoured that Madrid had an agreement with the player that if he wasn’t signed by June 30th Madrid had to pay Ronaldo a fee of €30 million.
